- I purchased this the Huion Pen Display GT190, about a year ago. I had read the reviews and understood that I wasn't paying for a Wacom; but a cheaper version.
So the review: the colour is off and hard to calibrate to due mostly to the super glossy LCD panel; so re-calibrate colour for different angles/use scenarios.
The Pen input device...the most important part of this product; it had started to crap out on me within the second month of use and now a year later no longer works. I had contacted Huion and there is nothing they can do for me...great, now I have a $400 monitor.
If you have money to spend, save it and buy a Wacom pen/display.
- It is a cheap alternative to a Cintiq for hobbyists and artists that want to see how it feels to draw on a pen display but in the end it's just that, a cheap alternative.
The monitor itself is a classic 19" LCD monitor with a strong surface to work on and beautiful colors and contrast. The buttons are on the front‚ which is really good compared to the old position on the bottom of the screen in the older version of this monitor. The cable sockets look downwards which means when you plug the cables in they'll go straight down to the table when the monitor is on the stock stand. Because of such position of the cables you will be allowed to a minimum angle of 45° before they start getting in the way; if you go any lower, the screen won't be able to stand still (even though I'm sure you won't really need to go with a lower angle than 45°).
The mapping is pretty good and the only thing you need to get used to is watching where the cursor is and not the pen (because the cursor won't always be perfectly lined with your eye and pen obviously).
The stylus is almost absolute garbage compared to a Wacom stylus. The nib is made out of cheap plastic and even though it has 2048 sensibility levels, the accuracy is so low that you can't get a clean stroke almost all the time. Using software like Lazy Nezumi for having a good experience with this stylus is a must. The two buttons on the stylus are pretty much useless as mostly they won't work properly with your custom bindings so if you won't use them for their default purpose you won't use them at all. Sometimes when you make the first stroke the stylus will lag and you'll get a deformed stroke so get ready for quite a few needless undos.
Here I've mostly mentioned things that are bad about the tablet but that's just to give you a clear picture of what to expect from the product. Any aspect of the tablet that I haven't mentioned works just fine and met the expectations.
Overall this is a product that's worth it's price and nothing more. You can get a great experience as a beginner artist with digital media and you can get a clear picture of what working on a pen display feels like.
It is a cheap alternative to a Cintiq for hobbyists and artists that want to see how it feels to draw on a pen display but in the end it's just that, a cheap alternative.
